Guidance for the Classroom-Based Assessment of Multilingual Learners: Assessing Languages, Literacy, and Learning Across the Curriculum is now available! Carol developed this publication for UNESCO and UNICEF EAPRO with many inputs from colleagues and friends. It aims to raise awareness about the capabilities of multilingual learners; enhance knowledge regarding the importance of language choices in teaching, learning, and assessment; support systematic planning for the assessment of multilingual learners; and help educators develop practical strategies for teaching and learning that enhance multilingualism and multiliteracies.

Looking for volunteers to contribute to the MLE database project in English - en français - en español - 普通话 - em português
We are looking for volunteer research assistants to join our team. If you have an interest in multilingual education, speak one of the database languages, and would be available 1-2 hours per week, we would be happy to work with you!
Our project offers researchers and practitioners in low- and middle-income as well as high-income settings access to this searchable, open-source bibliography, with links to articles or chapters that are available online. We are currently working to update all references through 2024. This Google folder provides guidance and links to each database. In this folder, you will find an informational file and copies of:
English database of publications up to 2017
普通话 Mandarin Chinese database of publications up to 2018
The English and Chinese publications have been sorted in tabs by topic: bi-/multilingual school models; school-based research on MLE; MLE policy; MLE assessment; reviews of language policy in specific countries/regions; and meta-analyses or syntheses of MLE research.
En français French database of publications up to 2019

"You don't say there are too many languages in the world. Languages are keys to knowledge. The more languages you know, the more keys to treasure houses you have. If you know all the other languages and don't know your language, that is called enslavement. If you know your language and add all the other languages, that is called empowerment."
— Ngũgĩ wa Thiong’o

“这个世界上的语言不会过多。语言是通往知识的钥匙。你懂的语言越多,你就拥有越多通往知识宝库的钥匙。如果你懂所有其他语言却不懂自己的语言,那叫做被奴役。如果你懂你自己的语言并且也掌握其他所有的语言,那叫做掌握主动权。”
